BAUFACHFRAU Berlin e.V. was established with the vision to create and strengthen opportunities for women in craft, technical and design professions. Today, the scope of work has expanded beyond that, and now focuses on social learning, gender equality and sustainability.
With a diverse team of architects, planners and carpenters the non-profit holds a versatile set of competencies in the areas of planning, designing and building. The affiliated “holzart” carpentry offers vocational training for women* and implements interior designs projects – from individual pieces to serial production, all with a passion for sustainable design.
Education and empowerment are at the core of BAUFACHFRAU’s work.
Free courses like cLabs and QLabs offer hands-on experience and insights into the most relevant issues of sustainable urbanism and the building sector. Other projects include the collaborative design and reshaping of living environments, from public places to play and learning spaces, such as schools. At their ReUse wood workshop, the team provides a weekly opportunity for everyone to realize their own (wood) projects with access to tools and advice.
