The Sustainable Campus of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts is located in the city of Höxter and home to our environment-related degree courses in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. Modern teaching and laboratory facilities guarantee practical work, as does the university’s own botanical garden.
About the program
The master’s program Sustainable Landscape Design and Development at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts OWL focuses on landscape design and development, addressing social, ecological and aesthetic dimensions in an integrated way.
This research and design-based program combines a long German tradition of integrating landscape architecture and planning with an innovative approach to landscape design and development. It addresses 21st century challenges such as climate change, energy needs, health, food security, accelerating urbanization and migration, focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Students obtain an insight into the field of landscape design and development, acquire related typological knowledge, develop a critical understanding of different methods, and gain experience in techniques and tools. This enables them to understand and intervene in different international contexts and to develop innovative landscape design and planning solutions at all scales.
The master’s program is open to highly-qualified international applicants with a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in the field of landscape architecture and planning, and of related subjects such as architecture, urban design and planning, and environmental planning. The language of instruction for this 2-year master’s program is English.
