++ The construction sector has been key in building our modern societies, and today’s increasing population and urbanization create global demand for construction. But in absolute measures, current construction practices are unsustainable as these contribute to the exceedance of absolute environmental boundaries and resource supply horizons. Thus the construction industry is standing on the threshold of a sustainable transformation towards a circular economy.
This shift requires a high degree of collaboration between stakeholders along the value chain, such as investors, project developers, architects, resource providers and many more. It also takes data-driven approaches to align industry strategies with global planetary boundaries. Only in this way can industries, like the construction industry, set actionable, ambitious, and foremost sufficient goals to stay in line with societal requirements and ecological possibilities.
Realdania, DTU Management, and DTUs centre for absolute sustainability has granted funding for a PhD project to research the development and implementation of construction platforms for the circular economy. We are looking for the right candidate for this PhD project.
