The research will develop new technological approaches adapted to the warming climatic conditions and the higher intensity of extreme events for increasing the indoor and outdoor comfort in urban spaces and buildings, developing, and testing high-tech and low-tech solutions. Implementing pilot/frontline interventions for the adaptation of indoor and outdoor spaces (e.g. buildings, public open spaces, pedestrian alleys), in the context of the project “MUSA – Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action”.
The researcher will be integrated in the lab of the end-use Efficiency Research Group, with 30 years track record of reserach on building physics and comfort. The case study will be the high performance retrofit of a building of the “Department of Excellence” DAStU (Department of Architecture and Urban Studies).
Responsibilities
The researcher will perform dynamic simulations of passive and hybrid (combination of passive and active) systems and will be involved in developing and testing advanced controls. She/he will also design and perform measurements of environmental variables and simultaneous surveys of comfort sensation and satisfaction by the occupant of indoor and outdoor spaces, under various functioning regimes. The performance of some new materials for radiation to the sky will be experimentally analised.
Qualifications
Experience in simulation and or monitoring of physical parameters and or comfort surveys, good verbal and written communication skills, good and critical understanding of building ing physics principles.
