J&L Gibbons is an established and visionary Landscape Architecture studio based in London.
The practice began in 1986 and is renowned for its innovative and holistic design process combining research and an open-minded approach to design.

J&L Gibbons has the experience and skill to envisage and communicate the dynamic and specific beauty of each landscape over the long-term. The practice is driven by a desire to safeguard the deep ecologies that shape the character of a place.
It is dedicated to key practice priorities of design quality, integrated green infrastructure, promoting natural heritage (especially veteran trees), landscape stewardship and community empowerment through sharing knowledge and experience in the landscape. This is reflected in the studio’s portfolio which is characterised by a scrupulous understanding of both natural processes and community networks.

We are looking for a Landscape Architect with 3-5 years post-graduate experience. Creativity and enthusiasm are key, with a willingness to engage with all stages of the design process in a collaborative manner with colleagues, clients, professional teams, the local community and contractors.

You will be required to:

  • Contribute to a harmonious, creative atmosphere and be respectful to colleagues and collaborators.
  • Share in the ethos of the studio to produce beautiful and considered work that has a positive impact on the Planet and responds to the challenges of climate and biodiversity emergencies.
  • Design at multiple scales, from masterplanning to detail design and implementation.
  • Communicate and engage with contractors, other design disciplines, clients and the general public.
  • Take direction, support other team members as well as be comfortable with self-direction and structuring your own work load.
  • Have a proactive, motivated and positive attitude.

Required skills and experience:

  • A degree in Landscape Architecture or a related design field.
  • Strong graphic communication skills.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Strong design and technical skills, including analysis, design development to project delivery.
  • Proficient drafting skills; drawings, schedules and specifications through all RIBA workstages.
  • Technical expertise of Adobe Creative Suite and AutoCAD are essential, a working knowledge of REVIT would be viewed favourably.
  • Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute (or equivalent professional certification) or commencement on the Pathway to Chartership is viewed as a positive but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the UK planning system would be advantageous.
  • Experience of the tender process and experience on site during construction would be an advantage.
  • Experience of projects in a heritage context or sensitive landscapes would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of hard landscape detailing and planting design preferable but not essential.
  • BIM project experience advantageous but not essential.
