Urban Scale Interventions (USI) is a creative studio which responds to the way we live, work and play.

We believe the best innovation happens at the intersection between people, place and purpose.

We use the established double-diamond design methodology and support public and private organisations in people-centred design innovation.

We do this through research, strategic policy fit, community and stakeholder engagement, concept design, design development and delivery.

The position is available for specialists in particular aspects of culture and heritage in urbanism, new forms of tourism, development of place and sustainability. We are also open to approaches from ‘all rounders’, though would expect these to be able to highlight several areas of particular specialism in creative fields relating to city and cultural challenges.

Above all, the role is all about seeing things differently, making new connections, challenging perceived wisdom, and generally arriving at amazing new insights that will lead to actionable projects with global application.

As a placemaking and planning lead you will be expected to undertake a range of research and consultancy tasks across our portfolio of work including:

  • Design and conduct a range of mixed method research, particularly focused on ethnographic and qualitative research (but with an understanding of quantitative methods too) across a range of stakeholders from senior politicians to local community groups.
  • Pull out punchy, creative and clear insights from research data into creative and compelling visions and analysis
  • Write global trends, desk research and literature reviews presented in a clear and concise way.
  • Undertake feasibility and economic analysis of projects to show viability.
  • Report and presentation writing, including helping to shape a clear and coherent narrative
  • Project manage contracts, working closely with Project Directors, and continuing our reputation for high quality.
  • Client management, including ensuring our clients are engaged in the consultancy process.
  • Contribute to the tendering process (i.e. to bid writing and pitch preparations).
