About the institution

TU Vienna is Austria’s biggest education and research institution with almost 30.000 students. The university’s teaching and research are focused on engineering, computer science, and natural sciences.

About the program

The Master’s programme in Building Science and Environment targets students from different backgrounds who wish to develop and deepen their knowledge in the areas of building performance, sustainable design and building informatics. Students in the graduate program Building Science and Environment learn how to apply scientific methods and State-of-the-art technologies in order to address the multi-faceted challenges posed by high performance and sustainable buildings.

The programme has a strong interdisciplinary character and is organized in 3 semesters of full-time study and 1 semester of Master’s thesis, totalling in 120 ECTS. Graduates are awared the academic degree Master of Science (MSc). The number of students is limited to 35.

The program focuses on architectural design, construction and technical infrastructure of the building process.

The program has a geographical perspective, e.g. urban planning, rural development or public spaces.

Interdisciplinary

The program stands out by combining different sciences or approaches with the aim of giving to the student deeper understanding of the subject of study.

Society

The program emphasizes the human dimension of the built environment, e.g. participatory processes or inclusive designs.

Business & Management

The program addresses how to organize architectural and spatial infrastructures or processes, either for private or public actors.

Materials

The program explores (certain) building materials and/or technical circularity processes.

Digitalisation & Technology

The program emphasizes the technological aspects of the built environment, e.g. BIM, robotics or digitalisation.
