About the institution
The HafenCity University Hamburg (German: HafenCity Universität Hamburg, abbreviated HCU) is a public university in Hamburg, Germany which is focused on architecture, civil engineering and urban planning courses. The university’s name refers to its location in Hamburg’s HafenCity, the site of an urban regeneration project where the old port warehouses of Hamburg are being replaced with offices, hotels, shops, official buildings, and residential areas.
About the program
The Master of Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning (REAP) is a two-year international and interdisciplinary program and aims to develop sustainable planning in various contexts across different geographical and cultural settings. The program comprises 17 study modules that focus on topics such as sustainability, water, material, and energy cycles in cities, resource-efficient urban technologies and infrastructure, economics and administration of buildings and urban services, legal and policy instruments, urban planning and research methods and decision support techniques.
The curriculum includes lectures, seminars, and real-time case studies, offering 120 ECTS. It is important to note that REAP is not focused on architectural design, but mainly on interdisciplinary approaches to environmental design and technology, emphasizing the multidimensional aspects of sustainable resource management.
