About the institution

The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is a Vietnamese public university, located in Binh Duong, Vietnam. In its administrative and academic structure, VGU follows the German model and standards. The Technische Universität Darmstadt (English: Technical University of Darmstadt) is a research university in the city of Darmstadt, Germany.

About the program

The Joint Degree Master “Sustainable Urban Development” (SUD) is a two-year (4-semester) full-time Master’s program at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUDa). The program is offered entirely in English by teachers from Germany and Vietnam and has a strong connection with national and international research institutions and other industries in the field of urban development.

The interdiciplinary program focuses on urban development and ecological governance. Students test methods for solving the challenges of sustainable urban development in small groups and apply them in practical examples.

The first semester is held at TU Darmstadt for some students and at the Vietnamese-German University for the others. In the second term, all students will study together at TU Darmstadt. The third semester takes place jointly at the Vietnamese-German University for all students. In the fourth term, students can decide whether they want to write their master’s thesis in Germany or Vietnam.
