The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) is seeking applications for a four-year fully funded PhD fellowship in the field of Circular Architecture and Material Flows, starting in September 2025. This position is based at the Institute of Architecture and focuses on research into the reuse, transformation, and preservation of architectural materials and structures, addressing challenges posed by climate change, excessive resource consumption, and waste in the building industry. The fellowship includes 25% teaching responsibilities and requires full-time attendance as part of AHO’s research education program.
The position invites innovative research proposals exploring the valuation and evaluation of reclaimed materials and existing buildings, combining theoretical studies with empirical analysis such as on-site investigations and archival research. This work aligns with the ambitions of the New European Bauhaus, emphasizing a balance of quantitative, qualitative, and arts-based approaches to assess cultural, environmental, and architectural values.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in architecture or a related field, have documented experience in academic writing, and demonstrate strong motivation and organizational skills. Teaching experience is advantageous but not required.
Applications must include a project description (max. 5 pages) outlining the research field, questions, methods, and educational relevance, alongside a cover letter, CV, academic certificates, references, and examples of written or practical work, if available. Only applications submitted via Jobbnorge will be considered.
The fellowship offers a salary of NOK 532,200 annually, a 25,000 NOK annual allowance for academic activities, and office space in a stimulating professional environment. Standard Norwegian state employment conditions apply.
