Description

The Urban Journalism Network, an award-winning team of journalists, urbanists, and designers, is seeking freelance Data Journalists and Investigative Reporters for its international investigative projects on housing in 2025. The team collaborates with media outlets across Europe to address issues shared among cities, such as the housing crisis and land speculation. The network is known for its data-driven investigations, including the award-winning “Cities for Rent” project.

The Data Journalist role involves data collection and analysis, working with European partners to compile datasets, prepare visualizations, and assist regional journalists. The Investigative Reporter will conduct in-depth research on European policy, focusing on housing and related urban issues. Responsibilities include preparing briefings, forming investigative hypotheses, conducting interviews, and writing articles. The role requires at least 3 years of journalistic experience and expertise in housing, environmental policies, or urban planning.

Both positions are part-time freelance with flexible hours, initially for six months, and can be extended. The network offers fair payment, home-office options, and the opportunity to work with a diverse team across Europe. The application deadline is November 17, 2024, with a job start date between December 1 and January 20, 2025.
