Senior Urban Designer – Full-Time Role

This is a full-time role for a Senior Urban Designer, working from our office above Smithfield Market in Farringdon. Key responsibilities will be to lead a team consisting of Urban Designers and Project Assistants in the development of public realm designs across the equivalent of RIBA Stages 0-5. Candidates will ideally have RIBA Part III qualification or chartered status with the Landscape Institute. This is a client-facing role working closely with the Directors and other members of the team. Potential candidates should have professional experience of producing urban design and public realm or equivalent within landscape or architectural practice, including RIBA Stages 3-4 detailed design work. The candidate should have a minimum of seven years’ industry experience working on public realm schemes and a thorough understanding of our sector. Fluency in AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, and the Adobe Creative and Microsoft Office suites is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Collaboration:

    • Working closely and effectively with other members of the team, including the Executive Team, Projects Director, Urban Designers, Graphic Design Team, Researchers, and Project Assistants or freelancers in the delivery of projects.

Co-leading Design Proposals’ Development:

    • Developing proposals for complex urban sites that are ambitious and mindful of practical application and constraints.

Managing Project Delivery:

    • Overseeing the delivery of multiple and/or complex projects, including managing the time and resources of the wider Publica project team.

Client Liaison:

    • Handling correspondence, attending client meetings, and attending public meetings if required.

On-site Area Surveying:

    • Conducting interviews, photography, drawing, and mapping.

Research Activities:

    • Carrying out desk-based research and archival research.

Drawing and Digital Visualization:

    • Creating visualizations of both current conditions and design proposals.

Survey Materials Preparation:

    • Compiling and preparing survey materials and images for reports.

Research Analysis and Report Writing:

    • Analyzing research findings and writing reports.

Collaboration and Coordination:

    • Collaborating with and coordinating other project consultants and sub-consultants.

Report Compilation and Editing:

    • Overall responsibility for the compilation, writing, and editing of reports, including the integration of research and policy and procedures for quality assurance.

Presentation of Findings:

    • Presenting findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences and drafting presentations to be made by other members of the senior team.

Leadership Team Support:

    • Supporting the Leadership Team by working closely with them to ensure projects are managed within budgets and required timeframes.

Communications Strategy:

    • Contributing to the communications strategy for each project.
