The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is hiring a Built Environment Engagement Specialist, a remote, full-time role open to candidates based in the UK, Netherlands, or Germany. This position is dedicated to advancing science-based emissions reduction targets within the global built environment sector, working closely with companies, industry associations, and civil society. Reporting to the Europe Regional Lead, the specialist will play a key role in promoting sustainable practices aligned with the SBTi’s mission of catalyzing global emissions reduction efforts.
The specialist will be responsible for developing engagement strategies for the built environment, maintaining current knowledge of SBTi standards, collaborating with companies to support standard adoption, and building industry relationships. Essential qualifications include 4+ years of experience in the built environment sector, knowledge of sustainability challenges and SBTi standards, and strong project management, analytical, and communication skills. While a relevant degree is preferred, equivalent experience will be considered.
SBTi, a registered charity in England and Wales, supports companies and financial institutions in setting climate targets in line with the latest science, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. The initiative provides resources and guidance to help companies reduce emissions, and the Impact Department facilitates stakeholder engagement and standards development to achieve this goal.
