TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment is seeking a PhD candidate to join the Horizon Europe-funded RURALITIC project, which focuses on redefining rural territories in Europe, addressing resilience, inclusivity, and sustainability. The candidate will contribute to the development of new frameworks and tools for understanding and transforming rural areas, particularly focusing on socio-economic transitions post-COVID, energy transitions, and digitalization.

As part of Work Package 3, the candidate will develop a new typology of rural territories using a matrix of indicators to differentiate rural areas, contributing to an atlas that highlights their characteristics. In Work Package 8, they will analyze historical trends and future scenarios for rural life, incorporating foresight techniques to envision sustainable, adaptable futures.

The candidate will work closely with supervisors in the Section of Spatial Planning and Strategy and will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, policy development, and presenting research findings. The position requires a Master’s degree in a relevant field, strong research skills, and a proactive approach. The initial contract is for 1.5 years, with the potential for an additional 2.5 years, and offers a salary starting at €2872 per month.
