About the institution

Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, almost always shortened to “Howest,” is an entrepreneurial university of applied sciences in West Flanders, a province of Belgium, with five campuses situated in Bruges and Kortrijk.

About the program

Circulair Bouwen is a postgraduate program that encompasses various aspects of circular construction, extending beyond the mere reuse of materials. The course addresses themes such as context, participation and integration, reuse and recycling, collective solutions, scenario planning, closing water and energy cycles, and policy. The training is aimed at architects, policy officers, civil servants, urban planners, spatial planners, landscape architects, project developers, contractors, and other interested parties.

The program (30 ECTS) spans 10 months, with on-campus workshops and excursions scheduled every Friday.

The program addresses how to organize architectural and spatial infrastructures or processes, either for private or public actors.

The program explores (certain) building materials and/or technical circularity processes.

The program emphasizes the technological aspects of the built environment, e.g. BIM, robotics or digitalisation.
