About the institution

The University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (German: Fachhochschule Graubünden) is a university of applied sciences in Switzerland, active in teaching, further education, research, and services.

About the program

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) Urban Forestry was designed by a transdisciplinary group from research, education and practice. Several universities, institutions and bodies were involved in its development. The training is aimed at all those who want to help shape sustainable development and tackle climate change.

Students will learn about different elements: tree and forest, environment and ecology, urban landscape, city, society, as well as the necessary participatory communication strategies that contribute to an urban whole. Students will also work on interdisciplinary case studies in Swiss cities and implement a concrete project in the practical module.

The program consists of five specialist courses as well as a practical module. They all involve course work, webinars, as well as self-study. The specialist courses are each worth 10 ECTS and can be booked separately.

The program explores (certain) building materials and/or technical circularity processes.

The program emphasizes the technological aspects of the built environment, e.g. BIM, robotics or digitalisation.
