Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings

About the institution

Kaunas University of Technology was established in 1922 and since then continues to pursue sustainable partnership of science, business and industry, develops and implements new ideas, innovations and inventions.

About the program

Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings Master’s program focuses on different stages of the building life cycle: conceptual design, design and analysis, modeling and forecasting of building energy consumption and microclimate, integration of renewable energy sources, and efficient building management and maintenance – smart building engineering systems, life cycle costs, building renovation, and modernization. A great emphasis is placed on the strategic goal of reducing the impact on the environment in the EU. Two modules are devoted to deepening knowledge in energy efficiency, which will cover passive solutions such as cost modeling, appropriate design, waste and secondary material recycling technologies, and active solutions such as energy generation, smart HVAC systems, and data science.

Studies are usually conducted in afternoons and evenings, although some activities happen during the day. Studies take one and a half year to complete and are worth 90 ECTS.

Focus explained

We have grouped the study programs based on their focus, so that you can easily find the one matching your interest. Here below you can find a short explanation of what you will find in each of them.

Building & Design

The program focuses on architectural design, construction and technical infrastructure of the building process.

Space & Territory

The program has a geographical perspective, e.g. urban planning, rural development or public spaces.

Interdisciplinary

The program stands out by combining different sciences or approaches with the aim of giving to the student deeper understanding of the subject of study.

Society

The program emphasizes the human dimension of the built environment, e.g. participatory processes or inclusive designs.

Business & Management

The program addresses how to organize architectural and spatial infrastructures or processes, either for private or public actors.

Materials

The program explores (certain) building materials and/or technical circularity processes.

Digitalisation & Technology

The program emphasizes the technological aspects of the built environment, e.g. BIM, robotics or digitalisation.
