About the institution

Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) provides education in the fields of bioeconomy, health, education, business, design, and technology. Their presence spans across seven campuses in Finland, online, and internationally.

About the program

Sustainable Urban Design Bachelor’s program focuses on urban environments and how these can be used to promote peoples’ and the planet’s wellbeing. Students will learn to engineer cities that are equitable, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable. Within the programme, you will learn about creating safe and resilient cities by focusing on infrastructure, mobility, and the use of data in urban design.

The degree includes a work p​​lacement of approximately 5 months.​ The work placement can be completed abroad as well. Core competence studies make up the majority of credits, students learn about urban infrastructure and mobility, urban ecosystems and data analytics. Profiling competence modules offer a deeper dive into chosen specialization. Studies are conducted in english and take 4 years to complete full-time.

The program emphasizes the human dimension of the built environment, e.g. participatory processes or inclusive designs.

The program addresses how to organize architectural and spatial infrastructures or processes, either for private or public actors.

Materials

The program explores (certain) building materials and/or technical circularity processes.

Digitalisation & Technology

The program emphasizes the technological aspects of the built environment, e.g. BIM, robotics or digitalisation.
