The Faculty of Geosciences at Utrecht University is seeking a PhD candidate to explore the role of social innovation in enabling nature-based solutions (NBS) in the Mediterranean region. This research aims to contribute to just and sustainable cities by investigating how social innovation initiatives and networks facilitate the implementation and mainstreaming of NBS. The candidate will conduct both theoretical and empirical research, utilizing real-life case studies in the Mediterranean. The position requires a Master’s degree in relevant fields, excellent research skills, proficiency in English, and the ability to work independently and in a team. Desirable qualities include experience in publishing, knowledge of European environmental policies, and familiarity with social innovation and climate adaptation/resilience. The position offers a one-year contract, extendable to four years leading to a doctorate. The salary range is €2,770 to €3,539 per month for full-time employment.
