The Research-into Action Brief for the Global Alliance – Cities4Children Research Series ‘Cities for Children and Youth’ will comprehensively examine the impacts of climate change on the lives of children and youth in informal urban settlements. This brief aims to explore child-centered actions for mitigating, adapting to, and building resilience to climate change in these challenging contexts.

The key components of the brief include:

Review of Climate Change Impacts: A detailed exploration of how climate change affects the health, wellbeing, learning, safety, and security of children and young people in urban slums and informal settlements. The assessment will focus on understanding the implications for their ability to thrive and lead successful lives.

Identification of Best Practices: Recognition and description of best practices and successful child-centered examples of interventions, practices, programs, and policies. Emphasis will be placed on initiatives supporting the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, fostering both short- and long-term urban and climate resilience.

Stakeholder Mapping: Identification and characterization of key actors and stakeholders actively contributing to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and resilience building efforts. The focus will be on promoting safe and sustainable practices through collaborative efforts.

Policy and Programmatic Recommendations: Development of key policy and programmatic recommendations crafted to minimize the impacts of climate change on children and young people living in slums and informal settlements. The aim is to provide actionable strategies for effective climate resilience and sustainable urban development.

Through this Research-into Action Brief, the Global Alliance – Cities4Children aims to offer a comprehensive guide that integrates research findings with actionable insights. The goal is to foster a holistic and impactful response to the unique challenges faced by children and youth in informal urban settlements amidst the ongoing effects of climate change.
